Protective desiccant system for shipped goods

21 January 2011

A new desiccant system by Protective Packaging has been designed to protect products being shipped in ISO 20ft and 40ft containers, including plastics, metal, glass, canned food, chemicals, machinery and household goods.

The ProDriPole uses anhydrous calcium chloride and works in relatively open environments as opposed to silica gel and activated clay, effective when contained in a controlled atmosphere such as a hermetically sealed barrier foil bag, says the company.

The active substance is contained in the top section of the pole and the liquid that is generated during the absorption process - up to 2,000g - is collected in the bottom sump section of the pole, which hangs securely in a recess of the container.

Up to six poles are required for a 20ft container and up to 12 poles for 40ft containers, varying according to the length of transit, prevailing conditions and the type of cargo.
