Premier Foods opts for Zeller’s new Rio closure

30 December 2011

Targeting the jams and condiments sector, Zeller Plastik has launched Rio, a new standard lightweight 55mm headstand valve dispensing closure, already in use by Premier Foods Group on its Hartley’s Squeezy Jam line.

The UK arm of the Germany-based company – part of the Global Closure Systems group of brands – says the Rio closure’s versatile design is more than 25% lighter than its current standard, and utilizes a large diameter valve for “clean, convenient and effective dispensing”.

Two standard valve options are available: a two-slit version for preserves and a three-slit version for sauces and chutneys with fruit or vegetable particles. The closure can also be supplied without a valve.

Drainage features are provided for manufacturers using water jets in their post-filling operation to cool hot-fill products.

Induction heat seals provide an “excellent” hermetic seal, and Zeller offers three-tab peelable or ‘Lift ‘n’ Peel’ options.

Zeller says the Hartley’s brand has broadened its appeal to a younger demographic group since the introduction of the Hartley’s Squeezy Jam product formulation and packaging format in 2009.

UCP & Zeller Plastik UK in Norwich specialise in three basic technologies, child resistant, dispensing and tamper-evident systems and, in some instances, products that combine these technologies for pharmaceutical, personal care, household and industrial, food and beverage products.
