Petainer launches keg-equipment rental solution

Petainer, a recognised world leader in PET packaging, has launched a keg-equipment rental solution for its one-way (non-returnable) petainerKeg range. This new option enables brewers, fillers and brand owners to add PET kegs to their portfolio of packaging materials, enabling them to enter new markets with no upfront capital expenditure, just a flat monthly cost, and without the need to return empty kegs.

The introduction of Petainer's rental solution enables craft brewers and premium products favouring bulk PET packaging to benefit from significant cost and environmental reductions due to lighter outbound loads and no return freight costs. The petainerKeg range also benefits from being fully recyclable, enjoys an extended shelf life, plus petainerKeg machinery saves on water, chemicals, energy and keg maintenance.

The petainerKeg is widely accepted by brand owners for export and 'long distance' markets because there are no return journey costs or logistics. Steel and metal kegs suffer from a high percentage of 'lost' or non-returned kegs - sometimes up to 30%. A recent webinar survey showed that 43% of beer, wine and cider producers are considering using one-way PET kegs for export, with another 24% considering PET kegs for entry into new markets.*

Annemieke Hartman-Jemmett, Group Commercial Strategy Director at Petainer comments: "We have been working extensively with brand owners on our new rental options which allow brand owners to 'get started' with entry level machines. During the initial trial stages Petainer offers equipment free of charge for a limited period. Brand owners are supported by our team of experts (including Brew Master) who support the delivery of the concept and facilitate the test phases which are tailored to each customer's needs."

Following the trial there are different rental options available based on a 20-litre petainerKeg, allowing users to fill up to 30, 60, 120 and 240 kegs per hour. These different lines are configured to brand owners' specifications, for both small to high demand, enabling them to select the best option for their business.

Annemieke continues: "To expand our offering, we are working with two international partners, KHS, the manufacturer of filling and packaging equipment and Siapi, who provide technological solutions to the blowing machine market. Their expertise and resources enable us to further build the framework to deliver all-encompassing solutions to brand owners.

This new rental opportunity enables brand owners to increase their revenues using sustainable PET packaging without the usual high upfront initial investment and overheads. Also, it reinforces Petainer's sustainability strategy which was strengthened in 2014 with the introduction of its 'Zero Waste' programme, which promotes behavioural changes that actively reduce impact on the environment."
