PCD Congress Feb 2012 workshops update

PCD Congress organiser Oriex has released more details of the workshops scheduled to take place at the perfume, cosmetics and design event in Paris, 8-9 February 2012.

On the morning of the first day, Weds 8 Feb, an Innovation Workshop session entitled ‘How to draft a patent effectively to meet your aims’ will be chaired by European patent, trademark & design attorney Christian Derambure, and CNE (National Packaging Council) president Michel Fontaine.

Subjects will include: a patent for oneself; a patent against others; is the patent technical, legal, strategic, financial?

To wind up this session, Benoît Lejeune, patent engineer, European agent, Chanel France, will share his vision of ‘Intellectual Property and Innovation Strategy’.

A second morning session entitled ‘e@PCD; electronics/cosmetics convergance’ will address how the results of formulations be measured, and how electronics can be used to catch the attention of consumers and offer them new services.

This session will be moderated by Nicolas Duru, electronic laboratory manager, L’Oréal, and Dr Christine Lafforgue of the Pharmaceutical Faculty, Université Paris Sud 11, and president of the French Society for Cutaneous Pharmacology.

Topics will include Laser, Ultrasound; Movement, Energy; Communication, Interactivity; Safety, Evaluation, Regulatory Framework; Environment.

And Professor Philippe Humbert, Besançon teaching hospital, will take stock of the techniques used to measure the results of formulae and the action of cosmetic devices.

After lunch on the first day, a session on 'Innovations in perfume packaging and dispensing' will be chaired by Chanel MD packaging purchases and development Michel Dupuis, and packaging research and innovation director Pascale Marcianak-Davoult.

On the second day, Thurs 9 Feb, the morning session will be entitled ‘Packaging for beauty products and make-up: recent advances’. Hervé Bouix, senior vice president packaging new ventures & special projects at The Estée Lauder Companies Inc will chair this session that will address open Innovation; design as a means of offering consumers a richer purchasing experience; electronics/cosmetics convergence – added value or gadget; applicators, the key link ‘par excellence’; new materials; 2in1 beauty care devices; design luxury, functionalities and respect for the environment.

And in the afternoon on the Thursday, the PCD Awards ceremony will be chaired by L’Oréal’s Alain Béthune and Pierre Ducastin.
