An 80-strong range of food-to-go products, launched as part of the Co-operative supermarket’s new Loved by Us range in the UK, has been produced by Paragon Print & Packaging in conjunction with strategic design partner Equator.
The new range, which is already available in Co-operative stores across the UK, includes sushi, sandwiches, flatbreads and pastas, all of which extend across three different label, film and cartonboard packaging formats, each supplied by Paragon.
Paragon has invested significantly in group-wide colour management systems over the past 18 months.
Along with Equator, the Lincolnshire-based company used cutting-edge digital colour technology to ensure total consistency was achieved throughout the entire new Loved by Us range, regardless of substrate, print process and packaging format.
The launch marks the transition by the Co-operative group from plastic sandwich packs into the new cartonboard skillet format.
Using sustainably sourced FSC board, the new fully recyclable format is said to cut plastic by around 90%, with “overall carbon impact having been reduced 61%”.
“Through the utilisation of Paragon’s Freshlife technology, the packs also work to enhance freshness as well as overall appearance, flavour and texture to help reduce food waste,” Paragon Print & Packaging says.
Brooke Fletcher, the Co-operative’s marketing manager for packaging design, adds: “The new design is bold, contemporary and vibrant so it was important we worked closely with Paragon to ensure we achieved absolute colour consistency on shelf across all packaging substrates.”
