OCME launches Vela and Dryblock labelling and packing solutions

4 December 2012

Secondary packaging systems supplier OCME has introduced Vela, a “new generation” roll-fed rotary labelling machine suitable for applying wraparound plastic labels on cylindrical and shaped formats.

The Parma, Italy-based company says the new machine has been conceived – in conjunction with joint venture partner, labelling and filling specialists Z-Italia – to “guarantee an efficiency up to 99% and to reduce the total cost of ownership up to 40%”.

Featuring servo motor-driven double reel support, cutting drum, glue roller and in-feed screw, the standard Vela machine can process at a speed up to 50,000 bph.

According to the company, the servomotor on the labelling station delivers precise tension of the film, which is unwound, cut and transferred to the container utilising vacuum technology.

The machine also includes a system to load the label reels without lifting them, a device for automatic reel splicing and vertical opening doors.

OCME and Z-Italia have also developed Dryblock, an “integrated solution for final packaging from the filler to the truck”.

Delivered completely assembled, Dryblock consists of labeller, shrinkwrapper, wrap-around, case-packer and palletiser machines on mono-block, said to offer multiple advantages to “completely eliminate” all conveyor assembling, cabling and programming operations.

OCME says that with its “high flexibility and fast changeovers”, Dryblock can handle either cylindrical or shaped (square) containers, and the system “resolves definitively” the problem of transportation of non-cylindrical bottles.

A single operator is said to be able to run a Dryblock line at 36,000bph.
