Clondalkin Group company Nyco, has launched a low density polyolefin sleeve said to “vastly improve” recycling efficiency by making it possible to separate shrink sleeves from PET bottles or cups via automated recycling processes.
According to Nyco, the sleeve was developed in response to market demands for recyclable packaging.
The newly introduced material is said to have excellent machinability, flatness and high tensile strength, and can be stored at room temperature.
In keeping with other Nyco products, the new polyolefin sleeve can be printed rotogravure, UV flexo and UV offset.
Nyco sales & marketing manager Sander Kool said: “One of the main challenges in packaging today is to improve recyclability.
“This product is a great step forward. The material has a much lower density in comparison to PET which makes the automated separation process very easy, thus it increases recyclability and reduces waste to landfill.”
Part of the Clondalkin Group, Switzerland-based Nyco is a leading producer of shrink sleeves, lidding films and foils and reel-fed material for the dairy, confectionery, pharmaceutical and beverage markets.
