New owner for Nampak

8 March 2011

Nampak Cartons and Nampak Healthcare has been sold by South Africa-based Nampak Limited to Platinum Equity, a merger and acquisitions company.

Nampak Cartons supplies the food and beverage sectors from two sites in the UK and one in The Netherlands. Nampak Healthcare manufactures cartons, leaflets, labels and blister pack foils for the pharmaceutical industry from 11 sites across Europe.

Acquisition discussions began in 2006. “Over the last five years we have developed a strong relationship with the management team and Nampak,,” says Brian Wall, partner at Platinum.

Tom Reid, former Managing Director, Nampak Europe, who has overseen Nampak Cartons and Nampak Healthcare since 2007, will continue leading the businesses.

The healthcare business plans to invest in a new facility to replace and provide an upgrade to the company’s factory in Portsmouth, UK. The new site is in nearby Segensworth and due to be fully functional by the end of 2011.

The business is being rebranded and developing a new company identity.

An agreement to acquire the two Nampak businesses was signed in December 2010. The European Commission approved the move in February 2011.
