New barrier concept for long-life foods

5 May 2011

A new multi-layer barrier packaging concept for blocking humidity and oxygen to help to extend the shelf life of ambient food products by up to 24 months is to be unveiled next month.

Europe based, rigid packaging manufacturer Paccor is offering four basic reel structures suitable for use on form/fill/seal machines. A structure comprising PS/Evoh/PE (polystyrene/ethylene vinyl alcohol/polyethylene) is aimed at products such as stewed fruit, fresh fruit, cold cuts and desserts. With a PP (polypropylene)/Evoh/PP structure the pack is microwaveable and sterilisable, designed for baby food, ready meals and pet food. The PS/PE structure is suitable for cheese, fish and for industrial applications, and the PS/Evoh/PS form is designed for use with fresh products.

Paccor will unveil its innovation at the Rosupak trade show in Moscow, Russia, from 14-18 June 2011.
