Nampak highlights UK HDPE recycling success

27 February 2014

Nampak Plastics has announced that UK recycling levels of the high density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic milk bottle reached an all time high in 2013, increasing to 79%.

According to the UK’s leading producer of plastic milk bottles, the news means that HDPE plastic milk bottles are now one of the most recycled products in the UK.

Results of a 2013 survey undertaken by Recoup Recycling estimate that 316,054 tonnes of plastic bottles were collected for recycling in the UK 2012, and of those, 96,396 tonnes were HDPE milk bottles.

In 2013, Nampak developed a new version of its Infini milk bottle that contains up to 30% recycled HDPE – double that of any other bottle on the market.

Eric Collins, managing director of Nampak Plastics, comments: “We are thrilled with the continued progress being shown in the sector. It is something we feel is incredibly important.

“At Nampak we strive to ensure not only our bottles, but also our manufacturing processes, are providing the most sustainable solution possible.

“As such, these results are very encouraging and we hope to see even further improvement this year.”
