Mrs Darlington’s versatility

7 July 2011

Linx Printing Technologies has supplied a UK preserves manufacturer with a system for coding and marking that combines reliability with versatility.

Family owned Darlington and Daughters produces the Mrs Darlington’s brand of jams, curds, marmalades, mustards and chutneys. Such variety called for reliable printing of batch codes onto the underside of glass jars. Also, the right ink needed to be found to provide the necessary opacity whatever the colour of the jar contents. A black ink is not visible against blackcurrant jam; similarly, a lighter colour is not easily seen against lemon curd, for example.

Linx Opaque blue ink 1043 was recommended due to its distinctive sky blue colour, said to provide a strong contrast whatever the product. It also offers a high degree of light-fastness and temperature resistance.

The system is completed with a Linx 7300 printer, running at speeds of up to 80 jars/min.
