MGI targets packaging sector with Jetvarnish 3D inkjet system

20 November 2012

MGI Digital Graphic Technology has used Emballage in Paris to showcase the latest addition to its portfolio of inkjet production systems, the Jetvarnish 3D.

The machine, which can apply spot UV coating for both 3D and flat effects, marks a concerted push by the French manufacturer to grow its presence in the packaging sector.

Capable of applying UV coating from 8-100µ thickness, the Jetvarnish 3D can finish printed collateral from offset, digital and flexo printing presses.

MGI is pitching the new machine at companies producing a range of packaging such as cosmetics, jewellery and luxury items as well as proofing and book covers.

The inkjet press can supported substrates sizes from A4 format up to a maximum of 520mm x 1050mm and at production speeds up to 3,000 B2sph.

Speaking at the show, Kevin Abergel, director of marketing at MGI, said the machine had been positively received by visitors to the company's stand.

He said: "Having a presence at Emballage has enabled us to present to an audience that may not have been previously familiar with our product offering.

"We've used this as an opportunity to showcase the diverse range of tactile effects you can achieve on the Jetvarnish 3D and people have reacted well to that."
