Germany-based Mauser Group has announced its acquisition of industrial plastic container manufacturer Varicon Solutions in North America.
Mauser will take over the plastic packaging part of the Varicon business, which includes HDPE Tight Head and Open Head drums made of virgin as well as of post consumer resin (PCR).
Mauser Group subsidiary NCG (National Container Group) will assume the reconditioning activities of Varicon as part of an asset deal. This transaction is in line with the company’s “buy-and-build” strategy.
Varicon – well-known as a manufacturer and as a service provider of plastic drums and IBCs – operates two locations in the US: Greenville, South Carolina, and Cleveland, Ohio. Following the acquisition, the production volumes of Varicon will be transferred to existing Mauser/NCG facilities.
With the acquisition, Mauser Group says it will strengthen its market leadership in North America and further enhance its “life cycle management strategy for packaging”.
“This acquisition is another milestone supporting our worldwide growth strategy and enables us to meet the increasing requirements for plastic packaging made out of PCR resin including all related services in the Southeastern US,” says Jeff Simmonds, Mauser Group SBU manager North America.
Headquartered in Bruehl, near Cologne, Germany, Mauser Group offers sustainability-oriented full cycle services, from production to recycling (“ECO-CYCLE”).
The company maintains a global presence through its network of 60 Mauser/NCG sites and multiple joint ventures in Europe, the Americas and Asia, plus two licensee networks for plastic and steel packaging.
NCG was founded in 1988 in North America where it established the first nationwide recollect service for IBCs.
