Environmentally-focused The Less Packaging Company has expanded its operations in India with the opening of a third office, near Delhi.
The expansion is due, the company says, to increasing market demand for its packaging expertise and impartial advice from clients such as Marks & Spencer, looking for solutions to improve and reduce waste in their product packaging.
Adrian Cox, Less co-founder and technical partner, who was present to oversee the opening celebrations, says: “The rapid growth we are experiencing globally is exciting. India is one area that has seen huge market demand, with so much of packaging made in the area.
“As a result, it makes logical sense for us to have an on-the-ground presence, ensuring we can offer better support to our clients. We are looking forward to seeing the opportunities our new base will bring.”
The Indian office was unveiled using a time-honoured ritual called Hawan Yahya, which directly translates to ‘worshiping God through holy fire, a symbol of energy’. The blessings are invoked to encourage rewards for all involved in the new venture.
The operation is located in Gurgaon near Delhi, where Less Packaging produces packaging samples that can be tested and analysed effectively to ensure compliance and rapid speed to market, as well as providing other services to enable retailers to better engage with their suppliers in a partnership approach.
The company supports clients such as M&S to reduce product and packaging wastage through better design, measuring packaging commercially and environmentally to reduce total impact from cradle to cradle.
“We employ a team of local people with structural packaging design and manufacturing experience,” the company says. “We train these key people at our London-based facilities to transfer knowledge of the Less approach.”
The company coined the phrase “pre-cycling” to describe its approach, based on designing packaging waste out of the entire supply chain from the beginning of the process, “before the cutter guide is designed”.
