Kraft US opts for RPC thermoformed coffee vending cups

27 November 2013

Germany-based plastics packaging specialist RPC Bramlage has developed a brand new thermoformed hot drink vending cup for consumer foods corporation Kraft in the US.

Forming part of Kraft’s Gevalia single-serve coffee system, the new thermoformed PS cup contains a special filter paper, into which coffee (or an alternative beverage ingredient) is placed before the cup is sealed.

To make the drink, the cup is inserted into the brewing machine and pressurised water flows through the pack at the correct temperature.

According to RPC Bramlage, the adoption of the cup by Kraft offers: “Further evidence of RPC’s pre-eminence in the fast-growing capsule market, where the new cup offers the long shelf-life required by customers.”

Pilot tools and initial start-up production were initiated at RPC’s Bremervörde facility in Germany, prior to full production at the company’s US factory in Morgantown, Pennsylvania.
