Irish paint firm selects Supertainer ‘next-gen’ plastic cans

6 November 2012

Supertainer from RPC Containers Oakham has been chosen by Castle Paints, one of Ireland’s leading paint manufacturers, for its latest range of premium quality acrylic paints.

The injection moulded open-top polypropylene container manufacturer describes Supertainer as the “next generation” in its plastic paint can design – said to deliver a lower carbon footprint and enhanced decoration possibilities, while maintaining the same dimensions for logistics and on-shelf storage.

“Visibly no different to what has gone before, the key change has been to take material out of the container body to match the latest advances in polymer strength and meet sustainability targets,” says RPC Oakham technical manager Brian Edwards.

In order to ensure confidence in its performance, RPC Oakham piloted Supertainer for 18 months, and is supporting the move with “considerable investment” on production lines.

This includes new equipment developed specifically to handle high-quality in-mould labelling (IML) such as that required by Castle Paints, which is using 2.5-litre and 5-litre Supertainer variants, as well as RPC Oakham’s standard 1-litre paint can and 5-litre S range can.

Ronan Spollen of Castle Paints says: “We are fully committed to ensuring our products are designed to cater for the requirements of Irish businesses and the Irish consumer – and that includes the high quality RPC containers we use.”
