Huhtamaki has devised a novel promotion for its ‘Love Nature’ BioWare paper drinks cups, which will be ‘vended’ from a machine complete with plant seedlings as part of the display of Sparsholt College, Hampshire at the 2014 RHS Chelsea Flower Show in London this May.
Entitled ‘The Paper Chase’, the garden is designed by horticulture students at the specialist Sparsholt College, and has been created using compost made from Huhtamaki’s environmentally sustainable BioWare foodservice packaging range to showcase the process from tree to cup.
According to Huhtamaki, the garden project demonstrates how the company has managed to ‘close the loop’ by composting its cups, then using the compost to grow the plants that will be used to make more cups in the future.
The use of a vending machine is intended to make the concept accessible to consumers visiting the prestigious international event, many of whom will be accustomed to the idea of obtaining drinks from such machines.
Donated by Bettavend, the vending machine was specifically chosen for its large glass frontage, which will provide maximum visibility of the plant seedlings being ‘vended’ during the event.
“The garden carries a strong environmental message, which Huhtamaki hopes will enthuse and educate everyone with the merits of sustainability, composting and waste recycling,” the company says.
The ‘Love Nature’ BioWare paper vending cups are part of Huhtamaki’ new-look compostable BioWare cup range, which have been redesigned to give the products a fresh, modern appearance while placing further emphasis on their ‘green’ credentials.
The range comprises hot and cold cups in a choice of sizes, as well as a 9oz paper vending cup.
