Herma to extend plasticiser-free peel-off self-adhesives range

13 August 2013

Extending its HERMAperfectPeel line, self-adhesives technology specialist Herma will launch two plasticiser-free, acrylic-based dispersion adhesives 42Lpp and 42Upp at Labelexpo Brussels, 24-27 September 2013.

According to the Germany-based company, the two new products make it possible to produce peel-off labels even for critical surfaces, “without having to make any compromises in terms of their visual and physical resistance”.

Multi-layer technology and microsphere particles played a crucial role in the development of 42Lpp and 42Upp.

Completely free of plasticisers, the new products avoid adhesive migration through the label material, which is said to be “often typical for rubber-based adhesives”.

“No plasticisers attack the substrate and label paper to which adhesive is to be applied or migrate through it,” the company says.

“The adhesive’s peelability is designed for different surfaces, even critical ones.”

Particularly suitable for glass surfaces, 42Lpp avoids the problem of ‘ghosting’, as it can be peeled off completely without leaving any residue or traces of label, “even with prolonged exposure to heat or light”.

42Lpp can also be used for peel-off labels on plastic surfaces, such as PP and PVC resin, and lacquered, galvanised and powder-coated metals, as well as paper.

Described as “ultra easy peel-off”, 42Upp is suited to smooth and particularly sensitive surfaces such as envelopes, magazines and book covers, which are covered with varnish.

“The integration of microsphere particles, very small beads with special properties, ensures that the surface of the object to which a label is to be applied is not modified,” Herma says.

42Lpp and 42Upp join Herma’s proven peel-off acrylic-based dispersion adhesive 42N – suited to cartons, PE films and rough surfaces in general – in the HERMAperfectPeel range.
