Henkel offers Eticol adhesives free of borax and zinc

16 November 2012

Henkel has unveiled its new Eticol borax- and zinc-free casein-based labelling adhesives at this year’s Brau Beviale show in Nuremberg, Nov 13-15.

The Düsseldorf-headquartered group says the innovation is characterised by “outstanding bonding power” and, with a modified formulation, contributes to improved sustainability performance at bottling plants.

The whole range of Eticol casein-based adhesives – a flexible bottle labelling solution employing water-based adhesives – is said to be defined by exceptionally good bonding behaviour on very moist and very cold bottle surfaces, with labels also adhering strongly to the bottle if condensation forms on the glass.

“The adhesive technology is based on natural polymers that are obtained from the raw material casein,” the company explains.

“Until now, some Eticol adhesives still contained borax or zinc in quantities far below the strict statutory limit values. The new Eticol products do not contain either of these ingredients at all.”

This is said to have a positive impact on factors such as the wastewater produced by bottlers as well as the minimum shelf life and quality of the adhesives.

The Eticol product range is available in a number of variants, including high wet tack and outstanding ice-water resistance.

The adhesives can be used in conjunction with labelling machines, even at maximum speeds.

“Eticol products have long exhibited excellent characteristics when the labels are removed in the bottle cleaner and they perform flawlessly in many plants worldwide,” Henkel says.
