Greiner Packaging International is setting up in new offices at its first US site in Pittston, Pennsylvania, in May 2014.
According to the Austria-based packaging manufacturer, production will start in July with a focus on premium packaging for the dairy industry, and initial machine operation should start by the fourth quarter 2014.
Greiner Packaging International says that solution such as its K3 technology – a cardboard wrap that can be decorated on the interior and exterior, making it “perfectly suited for the highly developed US marketing system” – are ideal for the current demands of the US dairy industry.
“There is much to be said about being active in the US market, especially now,” explains Willi Eibner, CEO of Greiner Packaging International.
“The consumers’ rethinking has led to eating more consciously. The increasing demand for good quality foods also means an increasing need for high-quality packaging.”
At the same time, Eibner adds, Greiner has been observing a trend for sustainable packaging concepts: “Some of our customers have already started in the US.
“The new site opens up the opportunity to strengthen established business relationships on another continent, while staying as close to the customer as possible.”
Around 40% of the US population lives in the country’s Northeast and Midwest, and many milk-processing plants are also based in the region, which is also within easy reach of New York City.
