Government funds automation boost in the UK

19 September 2011

The British Automation and Robot Association (BARA) has kicked off a programme to boost the uptake of automation among UK manufacturers thanks to £600,000 of UK Government funding.

The Automating Manufacturing Programme will run until 31 March 2013 to show companies how automation can increase their productivity, reduce waste and help them become more profitable.

The main beneficiaries will be small and medium enterprises (SMEs) throughout all manufacturing sectors within the UK, but larger companies with limited knowledge of and expertise in automation are also eligible.

“This government funded programme is a rare opportunity for UK companies to take what is a risk-free plunge into the automation arena. It could fundamentally change for the better, the way that they do business,” comments PPMA CEO Chris Buxton.

BARA is organising Automation Roadshows, planned for November 2011, at sites of existing users to explain the benefits to potential new converts.

The Programme is the result of recommendations made in an industry study last year, Application of Automation in UK Manufacturing.
