Britain’s largest dairy company Dairy Crest will realise “substantial savings in both production and logistics”, thanks to a new margarine cup developed by Germany-based plastic packaging specialist Gizeh.
Gizeh was already producing the two different predecessor cups for leading margarine brands Clover and Country Life, and worked closely with Dairy Crest engineers and technicians on location in order to develop the new, uniform cup geometry.
“The changeover took place during ongoing production at full capacity and was a huge challenge,” says Gizeh sales director Robby Schröder.
“Over several months we had to simultaneously produce both the old and the new cups on our machines, and do so in enormous quantities.”
The new cup is intended to convey the respective brand identities in a harmonious fashion, as well as being as lightweight as possible and enabling filling using the existing machines at two production sites.
The result is a particularly thin-walled, injection-moulded polypropylene container with a slip-lid.
Both the lid and container have been embellished using in-mould decoration in accordance with the respective brand design.
The company’s range of products will now be expanded with a new 750g container in addition to the previous sizes of 250g, 500g and 1000g.
Having taken just under twelve months for the completion of the project, the new-look Clover and Country Life brands are now available in the new Gizeh cup in supermarkets throughout the UK.
With its principal place of business in Bergneustadt, Germany, Gizeh Verpackungen GmbH is one of the leading providers of end-to-end solutions for rigid plastic packaging in Europe. The company designs, manufactures and decorates innovative plastic packaging for products in the nutrition industry, as well as for personal hygiene and cosmetics.
