GIFT BOX BY ACADEMIA BARILLA WINS THE A' DESIGN AWARD FOR PACKAGING DESIGN
THE "SELEZIONE ITALIANA" GIFT BOX BY ACADEMIA BARILLA, MADE USING FAVINI'S CARTACRUSCA, WINS THE A' DESIGN AWARD FOR PACKAGING DESIGN
The special "Selezione Italiana" gift box by Academia Barilla (a company dedicated to the promotion of Italian cuisine worldwide), made using Favini's CartaCrusca and designed in collaboration with Draeger GPP, has taken third place at the 2015 A' Design Award and Competition, Packaging Design category.
The A' Design Award and Competition, organized by OMC Design Studios, is the world's largest design competition and each year awards the best design for products made worldwide. Divided into 100 categories, each of which entails its own specific instructions, a dedicated panel of judges and separate evaluation criteria, the competition's goal is to support the culture of design in all its forms and to motivate participants to present projects of the highest quality.
Academia Barilla created "Selezione Italiana" to promote Italian culinary tradition with a selection of products that epitomize Italian excellence, including the company's extra-virgin olive oil, pesto made using an ancient Liguria recipe, and a pack of bronze-extruded Barilla pasta.
The gift box is made of CartaCrusca, which is the first paper to be made with bran that is no longer fit for human consumption. CartaCrusca is a collaboration between Barilla and Favini, who worked in partnership to select the most suitable byproduct which was then purified and milled to make it compatible with the paper fibre. The result is a natural-looking paper with its main ingredient remaining clearly visible throughout.
Favini has been inspired by nature's own packaging, i.e. the bran that protects the grain, to make this unique paper and which now in turn protects the grain in its transformed state; pasta.
