German sausages come in resealable plastic cup

24 January 2011

In Germany, Rügenwalder Mühle is selling its sausage products in stable, resealable plastic cups manufactured by the Weidenhammer Packaging Group (WPG).

The company’s plastics division used in-mould labelling (IML) technology to produce an attractive package for the snacks and visually distinguish the product from competing chilled foods.

Mühlen Würstchen, are packaged in the clear plastic cups without water for added crispness.

The clear polypropylene cups are produced at WPG’s plant near Leipzig. Each semi-circular 222g cup contains six sausages packed upright.

The crystal clear cup with only partially printed wrap-around label ensures an unrestricted view of the product inside. Consumers can check the freshness of the content at a glance.

The cup is sealed with an aluminum membrane to guarantee tamper-proof freshness.

"The resealable plastic cup is a completely new type of packaging for cooked sausages," confirms Andreas Rothschink, Head of Sales at Weidenhammer Plastic Packaging.
