Fortress metal detector chosen by Edible Oils

Fortress Technology Europe has installed the first of two bespoke integrated Phantom metal detector and conveyor systems at Edible Oils’ bottling plant in Kent. Specially designed by the Banbury-based company to eliminate the risk of downtime caused by breakage or spillage, the high performance inspection unit features a purpose built reject mechanism for the safe handling of uncapped glass bottles filled with speciality oils and vinegars.

The combined metal detector and conveyor solution was custom designed by Fortress Technology in conjunction with Cotswold Engineering to fit on to Edible Oils’ production line between the filling and capping processes. It has a 150mm (wide) x 500mm (high) aperture and is currently inspecting up to 150 bottles per minute.

Edible Oils’ Trevor Barr comments: “Product safety and integrity, and reducing or eliminating potentially costly downtime caused by breakages or spillages was a priority. As a result, our brief stipulated the need for a reject mechanism that was swift, reliable and capable of handling glass bottles safely, without causing damage. The system that the company designed is simple, but effective. When a contaminant is identified, the item is rejected by a series of paddles that then transfer the bottled product onto a parallel conveyor.”
