First carton can for carbonated beverages

25 November 2011

Keienburg of Germany has created the first cardboard can for carbonated beverages.

The can body is made of a patented multilayer beverage board, which is claimed to be suitable for beer, sparkling soft drinks, juices, coffee – everything, the company says, can be filled and pasteurised in this packaging.

Keienburg sells the complete in-line can body production unit, which forms the packaging directly at the filling line and has an output of over 40,000 cans/hour. Existing filling lines, Keienburg says, only require a few simple modifications to process the new cans as standard aluminium ring-pull ends are used.

At the POS the cardboard can looks similar to its aluminium equivalent. It is produced in a slim-line shape as well as Party KEGs and barrels.

Keienburg is currently looking for strategic partners.
