Specialist paper manufacturer Favini has launched Crush, a new type of paper specifically targeting the packaging industry, and described as the “first and only range of ecological paper made from a variety of organic materials”.
Italy-based Favini says Crush occupies a unique position in the market, thanks to 15% of wood pulp in its manufacture being replaced by fibres from process residue by-products of organic products such as corn, citrus fruit, kiwi fruit, olives, almonds, hazelnuts and coffee beans.
Favini's new range, recipient of the Luxe Pack in Green award on its debut at the luxury packaging show in Monaco at the end of October, comes in a range of colours “inspired by nature”, and each has a distinct feel of its own due to differences between the types of material.
In line with Favini’s environmental commitments, Crush is FSC-certified, made with 100% green energy (the electricity is generated in Favini ’s own hydroelectric plant) and contains 30% post-consumer recycled fibre.
“Crush brings new life to residues from organic products that would normally be processed as fillers in animal food and fertilizers or simply dumped in landfill,” the company says.
“At a time of increasing resource scarcity, using these materials relieves pressure on forest resources.”
Crush comes in seven colours, associated with each of the seven raw materials utilised: corn, citrus, kiwi, olive, almond, hazelnut and coffee. There are 4 grammages optimised for packaging: 120, 200, 250, 350gsm.
Favini says that Crush “does the simple things well”, with optimal levels of performance in printing and other processes making the new paper ideal for various applications including shopping bags, labels, packaging, and many other creative communications.
And Crush can also provide a “new approach to the increasingly eco-sensitive consumer”, with an “on-trend fashion palette” and individual textures to bring a point of difference to items in luxury packaging.
Favini, a leading company in the market for industrial release paper and speciality papers for the fashion, design and luxury industries, has two manufacturing sites in Italy, employing a total of 480 people and generating annual revenues of about €129 million.
