EUROPEN to mark 20th anniversary

25 April 2013

EUROPEN is to mark its 20th anniversary in 2013 with a special event to be held in Brussels on 9 October.

At The European Organization for Packaging and the Environment event, key stakeholders will debate and share their views on how the packaging supply chain is making progress towards the EU Resource Efficiency objectives.

EU environment commissioner Janez Potocnik will be giving an opening address on EU policy developments in Resource Efficiency and Waste Legislation, and other high-level representatives from the EU institutions, as well as NGOs and industry players, will also be present.

EUROPEN managing director Virginia Janssens says: “Ahead of the 2014 review of EU Waste Legislation, we will also reflect on achievements from the packaging supply chain so far and address improvements, in a shifted business and policy landscape for packaging and packaging waste.”

EUROPEN has seen a number of changes, with the election of a new Executive Committee, a new chair and two vice chairs at its council of Members meeting in March 2013.

Martin Reynolds from Crown Europe takes over as the new chairman from John Swift of DS Smith Packaging, who steps down after four years in this position.

In addition to Reynolds, the new EUROPEN executive committee includes representation from across the packaging supply chain, and comprises: vice chair Erika Mink, Tetra Pak; vice chair Klaus Stadler, The Coca-Cola Company; Philippe Diercxsens, Danone; Denis Rousseau, ExxonMobil Chemical Films; Viivika Remmel, O-I Europe; David Hickie, PepsiCo; Tony Taylor, Unilever.

The EUROPEN 20th anniversary event will take place at the Residence Palace, Rue de la Loi, Brussels, followed by a cocktail reception.
