Crown metal packaging targets toys and games market

23 July 2013

Crown Speciality Packaging North America is promoting the benefits of metal packaging as a means of helping products in the toys and gaming sector stand out on the shelf.

Crown works with brands to develop customised containers utilising advanced decorative technologies such as high resolution printing.

This can be paired with embossing to produce the impression of movement through the use of shadows and can enhance the look of a game’s imaginative characters or designs.

Customers can take advantage of Crown’s extensive range of standard toolsets and sizes to reduce development time and maximise efficiencies, the company says.

Innovative shaping or Crown’s special window technology, can give a partial view of the product inside the package, and decorative technologies such as the HoloCrown allows for holographic images to be stamped directly onto metal tins.

Crown Speciality Packaging North America marketing manager Sheila Heath says: “There are traditionally two types of game and toy consumers – those who primarily like to actually play with the item, and those who see their purchase as a collectible.

“In both cases, consumers are increasingly recognising the value of premium packaged goods.

“This, coupled with the growth of the market in general has led to decorated metal tins often being utilised as the primary container, rather than PVC or cardboard.”

According to the company, toy and game makers are also increasingly attracted by the sustainability benefits of metal packaging, with options for end-users or collectors to recycle the packaging, or to make the most of its enduring protective qualities.
