Corrugated producer boosts capacity

Schumacher Packaging officially started production operations at its new corrugated packaging plant in Greven, Germany at the end of June. The group invested €45 million in the new facility on a 110,000m2 site adjoining the Muenster/Osnabrueck Airport, in order to bring production of corrugated board packaging closer to important sales areas such as north-west Germany, the Ruhr area, Benelux and Scandinavia.

The new Greven plant currently has a modern corrugator and six processing machines on a factory area of 30,000 m2. A high bay warehouse with a capacity of 15,000 euro-pallets is also on site. The 2.50m wide corrugator from BHS is equipped with two one-sided machines for the production of single or double-fluted corrugated board. In addition to F-corrugation, it can also produce all common types of corrugations.

For further processing, Schumacher Packaging has invested in a Bobst multi-colour inliner, which can process sheets up to 2.80m in width. This is complemented by a 2-colour inliner with a working width of 2.40m. A 6-colour flexo printing machine and two flat-bed stamping machines, all from Bobst, as well as two folding/gluing machines complete the ultra-modern machinery outfit in Greven.

"Some of the machines are already running a two-shift operation", reports managing director Bjoern Schumacher. "In two to three years, we hope to achieve full utilisation of this first construction phase, and to be able to run three shifts. In the long term, we want to extend the Greven location even further, with a factory space of up to 100,000m2 and around 500 employees."
