At its Cervia facility near Ravenna in the country's north-east, the company has installed a Heidelberg Speedmaster SM52-6-LX Anicolor six-colour printing machine, along with a Kama Pro Cut 53 Die Cutter.

Contego says the new anilox technology enables it to "respond rapidly to the market demand for small runs with short lead-times".

And at it site at Piacenza, south-east of Milan, the company has installed a MPS two-colour printing machine, with 100% in-line control camera, to increase printed foil capacity; and a Vijuk Machine from GUK – said to be the first of its kind in Italy – to produce outsert leaflets.

A Sodemal Pre-Folded Leaflet (PFL) machine has also been installed to further improve the quality of PFL output as well as increase capacity in preparation for future growth, the company says.

Contego Packaging CEO Tom Reid says: "These investments are part of our ongoing programme to further improve our facilities and technology in order to meet our customers' requirements now and in the future.

"Installing state-of-the-art equpment will ensure that we remain at the forefront of our field."

Acquired by Platinum Equity in 2011, Contego Packaging supplies high quality cartons, leaflets, labels and blister pack foil for the pharmaceutical industry from ten sites across Europe.
