Contego Packaging, a European supplier of cartons, leaflets, labels and foil for the pharmaceutical industry, has bought a state-of-the-art 50,000 sq ft carton production facility in Portsmouth, UK.
The company, formerly known as Nampak Healthcare before being acquired by Platinum Equity earlier this year, is relocating from its outgrown site in Portsmouth to nearby Fareham.
Tom Reid, chief executive officer, Contego Packaging Group, says the move “provides an opportunity for us to invest in state-of-the-art printing and cutting and creasing technology to handle the growing requirements for cartons, and provides scope for even further expansion”. Capacity will be around 25% more than current availability.
There is expected to be over 100 staff when the transfer is completed by the end of November.
New technology purchased for the move includes a Komori Lithrone GL40 six colour and coat print machine complete with print inspection system, a Bobst Expertcut 106 PER Blanking machine and new Kodak CTP (computer to plate) equipment.
Contego supplies the pharmaceutical customers from 10 sites across Europe. It also produces cartons for the food and beverage sectors from two sites in the UK and one in The Netherlands.
