Food contact grades of plastics suitable for still water and carbonated soft drinks will be exhibited by Holliday Pigments at Chinaplas 2011, from 17-20 May.
A new manufacturing process has enabled the production of pigments for taste and taint free plastics packaging.
The resulting Ultramarine Premier BC for still water and BC-R for carbonated soft drinks are widely specified across the European food and beverage sector, and there has been an upsurge in demand for specialist food contact grades from China, Japan and South East Asia, says Holliday Pigments.
Synthetic Ultramarine is non-toxic and safe for sensitive applications including cosmetics, children’s toys and plastics that come into contact with food stuffs, says Matthew Nicholson, Holliday Pigments’ Asia Pacific Sales and Marketing Manager. “But we recognised that we could add value to the caps and closures market by developing a grade that was proven to impart no taste or odour during the production process.”
Premier BC is said to offer excellent colour consistency, exceptional heat stability and lightfastness.
An inorganic pigment, Ultramarine is considered suitable for colouring closures because it will not affect the dimensional stability of plastic mouldings. So closures will not shrink or warp and are more effective in maintaining a tight seal.
