Chadwicks offers Braille shrink sleeve solution

23 July 2012

Shrink sleeves manufacturer Chadwicks has launched a shrink sleeve that offers a new way for brands to adhere to European legislation on the incorporation of Braille in packaging.

Part of the Clondalkin packaging group, the Greater Manchester-based company developed the new product in conjunction with the Clondalkin Pharma and Healthcare Division.

Following the implementation of The European Standard for Braille on Packaging for Medicinal Products – EN15823 in 2010, all products that have medical claims that are issued by a non-authorised person must incorporate Braille on packaging.

The legislation led to many brands applying additional clear Braille labels to existing packaging in order to meet the directive’s requirements.

Chadwicks sales & marketing director said: “This new product offers brands the opportunity to improve shelf appeal through utilising a single sleeve and doing away with other aspects of packaging to reduce cost.

“Working with other companies within the Clondalkin Group allows us to develop innovative products that fit closely with the needs of the market and this is an example of the competitive advantage it gives us, whilst highlighting the benefits of such partnerships to our customer base.”

The first commercial application for the new Chadwicks Braille Sleeve is currently at final trail stage and will be on the shelves during the summer of 2012.

Part of the Flexible Packaging Division of the Clondalkin Group, Chadwicks works with its sister company Nyco, a shrink sleeve manufacturer based in Switzerland, to provide a joint service to multi-site European buyers, meaning Chadwicks, together with Nyco, can provide a wide range of print processes including UV flexo, gravure and offset litho.

Clondalkin Group has more than 40 manufacturing sites located across Europe and North America, with annual sales in excess of €850 million.
