Chadwicks lids up to the Quark colour-match challenge

3 June 2013

Chadwicks, the specialist flexible packaging division of Clondalkin Group, has produced high quality pre-cut lids for Quark, a spoonable, naturally fat free soft cheese product being launched in the UK under the Lake District Dairy Co brand.

A key requirement of the Quark project was to match the colours on the new lids with the pot’s existing in-mould labelling designs for the three flavours – Original, Lemon and Vanilla – which are printed using a different print process.

Producing the five-colour lids on 50 micron polyester, Chadwicks needed to work closely with Lake District Dairy Co owner First Milk – the only major UK dairy company owned by British dairy farmers – and their other packaging partners in order to develop a colour-matched lid that provided consistency.

Chadwicks sales manager Claire Adams says: “In isolation this job may not be viewed as a particularly challenging lid. However, the important requirement was to ensure that clarity of colour was maintained and was consistent with the in-mould labels used on the pots.

“We produced a number of trials to ensure that the match was precise and the results we have achieved are excellent.”

Said to be suitable for use in cooking, baking and mixing, Quark – widely available in a number of countries across Europe and in North America – is an alternative dairy ingredient high in protein, and low in salt and sugar.

Chadwicks has more than 50 years of experience in the flexible packaging industry and is a leading global company in pre-cut lids and shrink sleeve production.
