The European Metal Packaging association Empac has announced that Turkish can producer Sarten Ambalaj has become its latest associate member, and the first Turkish company to do so.

Established in 1972, Sarten is today the leading can maker in Turkey and the Middle East, Empac says. One of the largest family-owned manufacturers of cans in Europe, the company ranked 127 among Turkey’s top 500 Industrial Enterprises in 2010.

Sarten, which has ISO 9001 certification, encompasses a total of 14 factories, 12 in Turkey and one each in Bulgaria and Russia, and employs over 2,400 people. The company exports to 55 countries with sales forecast to exceed US$350m in 2011.

Sarten’s product range includes food cans, aerosols, twist off caps and easy open ends.

Zeki Saribekir, Sarten’s CEO said: “Joining Empac was an important decision for us as we continue to grow in Europe and the Middle East. The association’s work and mission has impressed us, and we wish to be part of this influential organisation.”

Gordon Shade, CEO of Empac expressed his satisfaction: “We are delighted to welcome Sarten to our association. We are confident Sarten will add significantly to our membership and look forward to working with this leading company.”
