The British Plastics Federation (BPF) has launched EcoDesignGuide.com, an interactive hub featuring a searchable collection of sustainable design tools and guides from around the world.
The new online resource includes numerous design guides for making plastic packaging more recyclable, guides for incorporating recycled content in products, general guides about sustainability, as well as interactive tools such as carbon calculators. The searchable database presents a wealth of insight into plastic packaging design at a variety of technical levels, which can ultimately help to reduce the overall environmental impact of products.
Aimed at brands, retailers, manufacturers, designers, sustainability professionals and students, EcoDesignGuide.com allows users to search by plastic material, resource type, product type and region, so that they can find the tool or guide most appropriate for their requirements.
Visitors to EcoDesignGuide.com can read summaries, access the tools and guides, write reviews and leave ratings of the resources. Users are also shown relevant information including the publisher, the country of origin and the region to which the guide applies. Those who visit the site can also submit a tool or applicable resource they would like to be included in the database, meaning that as new tools and guides are developed they can be added and reviewed by an international community of users from across the packaging supply chain.
Following a sustainable plastic design workshop in 2019, the BPF has been working to help businesses within the packaging supply chain to understand and implement sustainable design practices and the launch of EcoDesignGuide.com is part of this work. It follows the launch of the trade association’s new e-learning platform earlier this month, PolymerCourses.com, which features a course about the sustainable design of packaging.
