Bio-Container breaks new ground for Cardia

19 April 2012

Cardia Bioplastics is claiming a “world first” with its new Bio-Container: a food contact compliant and fully recyclable container made from Biohybrid resins, for the nutritional supplement market and cosmetics industries.

The Australia headquartered company says the Bio-Containers offer “excellent physical properties and shelf life for the stored products”, and require less oil to produce, giving them a “more favourable environmental profile and carbon footprint than conventional plastic containers”.

A combination of renewable thermoplastics and polyolefin materials, the Cardia Biohybrid resins are fully recyclable and comply with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and EU regulatory requirements on materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.

With a US launch the first step in a global marketing strategy, the company is targeting the US nutritional supplement industry, reckoned to be worth US$22.5 billion per annum (Research and Markets, Nov 2011).
