Barthel takes on Rotocontrol EPOS system

Following its launch at Labelexpo Europe, autumn 2011, Rotocontrol’s Electronic Knife Positioning System (EPOS) is now generally available as an option on all Rotocontrol RSC Slitter/Rewinder, RSP Single Pass 100% Security Inspection and RSD Modular Diecutter finishing machines, the company has announced.

The Ahrensburg, Germany-based company says the new Rotocontrol EPOS option fully automates the slitting set-up, reducing job change time to less than a minute, even with shear systems using upper and lower blades.

Choice of shear, razor or crush blades for use with any material and a placement accuracy of 0.15mm can provide “hours of additional production time daily depending on job profile”.

Simply programmed from the operator-friendly touch panel, the EPOS also features an isolated tension zone across the slitting blades.

Having seen the Labelexpo demonstration, Mischa Barthel, MD of German converter Barthel GmbH, placed an order for a RSC 440 web width Slitter/Rewinder.

“In addition to the benefit of a single work station on their Vacuum Splice Table option for inspecting mill-splice/flags, matrix/missing labels and vision detected defects…I literally witnessed the set-up of shear knives in seconds,” said Barthel.

“Our RSC Slitter/Rewinder investment with these two options will be invaluable to the production team at Barthel.”
