Ball plans prompt Brazil can plant expansion

18 December 2012

Ball Corporation has announced that its joint venture metal beverage can plant in Alagoinhas, Brazil, which began production in March 2012, will start up a second beverage can production line in the second half of 2013.

Located in north-east Brazil, the Alagoinhas plant produces aluminium beverage cans for beer and other beverages and is operated by the Latapack-Ball Embalagens company, which also runs metal beverage packaging plants in Tres Rios, Jacarei and Salvador, Brazil.

“The Brazilian can market has grown by approximately 10 percent in 2012, and demand is expected to continue to increase,” says Ball president and CEO John A. Hayes. “The second Alagoinhas line, like the first line, will be capable of making several different sizes. Its capacity is secured under long-term customer agreements.”

US-headquartered Ball Corporation and its subsidiaries employ more than 14,500 people worldwide, and in 2011 reported sales of more than US$8.6 billion.
