The owners of the Skol beer brand in Africa have begun marketing the Skol Platinum brand in Rwanda in aluminium Impact bottles made by Ball Packaging Europe.
According to Ball, the Impact extruded bottle is the first launched on the African market, which is said to be set to double in size over the next ten years.
Unibra selected the 33cl Impact bottle for the Skol Platinum brand in Africa, with the aim of targeting a young and urban consumer group between the age of 22 and 28.
The company aims to build Skol into a major quality beer brand all over Africa, leveraging its African, Brazilian and European roots.
“Our Impact bottles have a premium appeal,” says Adriana Escobar, product manager at Ball.
“In addition, they are absolutely lightproof and act as a shield for sensitive beverages, protecting the quality of the product perfectly and hence allowing the consumer to indulge in a thorough brand experience.”
Typically closed with a crown cork, Impact bottles by Ball Packaging Europe are made of fully recyclable aluminium, and are available in sizes 33cl-50cl short neck and 33cl-47.3cl long neck.
Full decoration is possible in up to eight colours, including gold/silver, UV, fluorescent, transparent/opaque, plus over-varnish option of gloss, semi-matte and matte.
“The initial launch is planned for the Rwandan market only, but if our consumers appreciate our beer in the new Impact Bottle, we may adopt it in some of our other markets,” says Mark Mugarura, marketing director at SKOL in Rwanda.
