B Corp Movement sets foot on European ground

Ecological cleaning brand Ecover becomes founding B Corporation in Europe

European business leaders gathered in The Netherlands earlier this week to celebrate the official launch of the B Corp movement in the region, following its success in the USA, South America, Canada and Australia. The introduction of the B Corp certification to the European market sets the stage for an increase in greener, socially responsible and impact driven brands. The B Corp movement seeks to inspire all people to use business as a force for good. This week, Ecover, one of the largest producers of ecological washing and cleaning products in Europe has announced it has become a founding B Corporation in Europe.

Certified B Corps meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. With a growing market demand in Europe for fair, sustainable and organic products, B Corp Certification is a much-welcomed standard. More and more companies, like Ecover, Ben & Jerry's, Patagonia and Triodos Bank, realise that today's consumer demands not just their products to be good, but the companies themselves.

"We are delighted Ecover is a founding B Corporation in Europe as we believe businesses should go further and be restorative to society, the environment and our economy", comments Tom Domen, Innovation Manager for Ecover. For over 35 years we have been a pioneer in green cleaning, sustainably producing products that improve the livelihoods of people and enhance our environment. Our B Corp rating gives us a great benchmark for continuous improvement and it's important to us that the rating and our progress is available for all to see. As a B Corp we will continue in our mission to engage and inspire our peers, competitors and ourselves to do better, and help revolutionise the way modern day businesses do business".

"We are proud to welcome Ecover in the B Corp community," says Marcello Palazzi from B Corp Europe. "Together with the other B Corps, Ecover is building the economy of the future".

"B Corp certification is a natural fit for many European companies already operating in a sustainable way," says Leen Zevenbergen, a serial entrepreneur who is leading the European B Corp Movement. It will stand as a benchmark for those looking to improve their impact in the community, for their workers and the environment.

The founding class of 60+ European B Corps, join a global community of 1300+ companies, across 38 countries and 121 industries. The international B Corp movement is rapidly expanding and now with its European foothold, a new market will be unleashed, aiming for 1000 European certified B Corps by 2017.

Marcello Palazzi, leading the B Corp movement in Europe, has big plans for the region: "Since 2014, we've seen 60+ European companies successfully certify as B Corporations with another 500 regional companies currently going through the certification process - the movement is rapidly scaling up which is incredibly exiting".
