Avery Dennison launches ‘thinnest’ PET23 liner

13 June 2013

At 23 micron thick, the new PET23 liner from Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials is said to bring multiple sustainability and operational benefits to paper label production across a range of popular prime, variable imprint, and wine & spirits paper facestocks.

According to the California-based labelling and packaging group, Avery Dennison PET23 is currently the thinnest liner on the market – “leaner, stronger and faster than conventional glassine liners”, it is said to be fully recyclable and also able to boost productivity during both conversion and dispensing.

Label converters benefit from reduced transport costs due to the longer reels, as well as material savings and longer production runs.

“As PET23 is a stronger material than glassine, the liner does not stretch during high speed conversion and it lays flat with reduced hang and curl,” the company says.

“This liner even helps print quality, thanks to a smoother surface, and it offers very good resistance to heat.”

Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials senior product manager Astrid Beckhaus adds: “A PET23 liner makes paper labels work harder for both label converters and brand owners, and it brings environmental wins.

“And our Avery Dennison PET liner recycling programme completes the picture, with recycling available throughout Europe.”

When using PET23, users will benefit from less liner waste, fewer misaligned or rejected labels, a reduction in web breaks and, the company says, “significantly less” paper dust on packaging lines.
