Arla raises recycled content

21 October 2010

Dairy company Arla’s polybottles for fresh milk now contain 15% recycled plastic, an increase of 5% following discussions between the Waste Resources Action Programme (WRAP), Dairy UK, HDPE recycling companies and bottle manufacturers.

Richard Taplin, Arla’s packaging manager, says that the introduction of more recycled plastic in its

polybottles equates to a carbon reduction to Arla of approximately 3,200 tonnes/year.

“This is a significant step forward, not only in delivering our carbon reduction goals as part of our

Closer to Nature ambitions, it is also in line with the Courtauld 2 commitments we have signed up to, and also moves closer to the targets set out in DEFRA’s Milk Roadmap,” says Mr Taplin. “Our focus is now on how to deliver 20% recyled plastic in our packaging and beyond,” he adds.
