Ardagh Group has produced a new, lighter weight 660ml bottle for Scottish brewer Innis & Gunn’s Original and Rum Finish beers.
Known for its innovative approach to the production of beer, Innis & Gunn set metal and glass packaging specialist Ardagh the task of producing the lightest weight bottle in its class at 360g.
The new 660ml bottle will take its place in the Innis & Gunn range alongside a newly lightweighted 330ml bottle, which now weighs 195g, down from 245g.
According to the company, Ardagh Group’s product design team applied its advanced computer simulation technology including finite element analysis (FEA) and prototype modelling to develop the new bottle.
Innis & Gunn expects the combined weight reduction from the two new lighter weight bottles to reduce its environmental impact considerably, representing a saving of 2,000 tonnes of CO2 over the next three years.
