Aptar spray taps into fruit juice at source

29 March 2013

One step removed from conventional food ‘packaging’, Aptar Food + Beverage has designed and produced a novel dispensing spray system for tapping directly into fresh citrus fruits.

The ingenious device, developed for Spain-based silicone cooking and baking products company Lékué, turns any citrus fruit into its own ‘container’, allowing consumers to dispense the freshest possible juice directly from the fruit, whenever they require it, with no loss of vitamins or oxidation.

Aptar describes Lékué’s products as “fun and practical, combining design and functionality”, and says it was therefore: “Only natural for Lékué to turn to Aptar to supply the dispensing spray system used in their novel citrus spray.”

Thanks to its screw-like design, the citrus spray can be easily inserted and secured inside the fruit, and the juice then fills the filter through the holes where the sprayer collects the juice.

A silicone ring prevents the juice from seeping out, and a small dish allows the fruit to stand when not being used. The device comes apart completely for easy cleaning.

Aptar supplies a standard PAV spray pump, which is easily integrated into the parts forming the base and screw of the device.

“The citrus spray has proved immensely successful in the market, where consumers have been quick to recognise its benefits,” says Aptar.

Aptar Food + Beverage is part of the Aptargroup family of companies, along with Aptar Beauty + Home and Aptar Pharma.
