Aptar Pharma’s OSD multidose dispenser selected for new eye care product

The patented, preservative-free, multidose Ophthalmic Squeeze Dispenser (OSD) produced by Aptar Pharma has been selected for its first application in the launch of TRB Chemedica’s Vismed Multi, for the treatment of the condition dry eye.

The US-headquartered pharmaceutical company worked closely with the Swiss-German eye-care specialist to achieve patient safety, dosing accuracy and to maintain product stability in the ophthalmic spray device.

The Aptar Pharma OSD system is the result of 10 years of development for the

delivery of preservative-free ophthalmic solutions. The fact that the system does not require preservatives is a major advance for patients – many of whom are elderly – who experience eye irritation or allergic reactions when using preserved eye formulations.

TRB Chemedica’s new Vismed Multi – a patented, sterile, hypotonic lubricant eye drops formulation of 0.18% hyaluronic acid with essential ions calcium, magnesium and potassium – contains 10 ml of solution, equivalent to more than 250 drops, and remains sterile for up to three months after first use.

Other advantages of Aptar Pharma’s OSD system include the intrinsic intuitiveness of a squeezable container; user friendliness for all adult age groups due to a low actuation force; precise and reproducable drop ejection; and ergonomic and pocket size design.
