Amcor announces AGI-Shorewood tobacco operations acquisition

21 February 2013

The business to be acquired has plants or assets in South Korea, the USA, Mexico and China, but the acquisition excludes the AGI-Shorewood plant in Smith Falls, Canada.

Australia-based Amcor, the "world's largest packaging company", says the move will expand its business in the higher growth regions of Asia and Latin America, and includes speciality folding carton production assets in the US.

In Mexico it will build on the position established by Amcoe following its mid-2012 acquisition of the Aluprint tobacco packaging plant in Monterrey, Mexico.

Amcor managing director and CEO Ken MacKenzie said: "This acquisition is aligned with our strategic objective of expanding our position in emerging markets.

"The attractive purchase multiple and substantial operational cost synergies ensure the acquisition will generate very attractive returns for shareholders."
