AKW Group continues co-pack expansion plans

16 November 2011

Manchester-based AKW Group has appointed two new members of its board – Kelvin Beardsley, operations director, and Carl Murray, commercial director - to support its future growth plans.

The move follows the announcement earlier in November of a £150,000 investment in new high-specification steam sleeving machinery as the company continues to expand into the contract packing market.

Kevin Beardsley said: “I am really confident in the direction of the AKW Group and sincerely believe our ethos and capability is going to generate considerable success for the future.”

AKW’s new steam sleeving machine comprises a Graham RF150 sleeve applicator and Graham steam shrink tunnel, which is powered by a Certuss steam generator. It is capable of applying 150 sleeves per minute, which enables AKW to add high speed, cost effective and high quality sleeving to it product range.

The machine’s full cycle includes a Secomak Turbo Air Knife Drying system, which ensures products are dry enough to be immediately packed into whatever end packaging format is required.

Head of AKW’s contract packing division Rebecca Davies said: “As with everything we invest in, we only want the very best and this machinery fills that criteria with ease. It allows us not just to add steam sleeving to our services, but add the very best steam sleeving service in the market to our offering.”

AKW Group MD Julian Richards, added: “Our challenge is to take our turnover beyond £25 million in the next few years and this is why we are continuing to invest in developing the business.”

AKW’s facilities include 500,000 sq ft of warehouse space, over 100 lorries and access to a further 1,500 through Partnerlink, and the company’s clients include Regatta, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Diageo, Kellogg’s, and L’Oreal.
