A new dual die cut version of the Elite 250D die cut inspection rewinder, bristling with exciting new features, can be seen.

A removable anvil and an easy load system designed to accommodate most makes of rotary die have been developed. The inclusion of the ground breaking cartridge slitter system enables the operator to set the blades without taking them away from the machine.

A roll compensation arm effectively maintains unwind tension throughout the roll.

The cartridge slitter system has also been added to a new version of the Elite TT250 table top rewinder. Both models are capable of achieving speeds of up to 220m/min and each are fitted with a pneumatic unwind brake.

New automatic inspection systems for quality assurance and process control workflow will be demonstrated.

PrintVision-Helios and PrintVision-Jupiter Compact have been developed for printers at each stage of the production workflow.

PrintVision-Helios is designed for label printers. The system can be mounted either on-press for inspection during run-time or be mounted on a rewinder for post print quality assurance.

The system inspects labels of any size, on any label stock, including paper, reflective materials, transparent films, foils and flexible materials.

Online job/roll reports, with images of all faults, are generated, providing a record with defect analysis. This includes information about the defect such as beginning of the fault, its location, the type of fault and in which lane it occurred.

The PrintVision-Jupiter Compact incorporates a new software module with advanced automatic inspection capabilities for process control. The system alerts press operators to print defects including spots, streaks, misprints, colour variation and mis-registration and displays the fault on the monitor.

At the heart of the stand will be the DT series inkjet-printing module, which integrates directly into a 13in Mark Andy 2200 flexo press and which incorporates standard in-line, single pass flexo printing and converting operations.

The four-colour system is capable of printing high-end graphics with 100% variable information, and 100% coverage at 80ft/min.

The technology that combines full width 300-dpi resolution with eight levels of greyscale and UV curable ink is reputed to be an industry first.

The DT laser finishing module, developed with LasX Industries, makes it possible to receive a short-run job in the morning and produce it by the afternoon, even with a new die shape.

Also new will be the LP3000 label press, which operates at 230m/min.

Domino-ON-Demand, a complete variable data printing solution comprising estimating, pre-press, proofing and printing modules, will take pride of place.

Since previewing the printer earlier in the year, Domino has modified the print head, which is held down by positive pressure and now includes a built-in height adjustment capability. Its width has been reduced to100mm.

The internal database software can be networked to up to 16 print heads, enabling Domino-ON-Demand to be scaled to suit all sizes of high quality variable data projects.

With the flexibility to mount the print heads either vertically or horizontally Domino-ON-Demand can be integrated into an existing web press or handling system.

Alternatively, it can be teamed with a carefully matched range of Domino accessories to provide solutions for handling, feeding and curing as required.

Showcased will be the Sigma. Developed from the proven design of its predecessor, the E430/510i, the Sigma is a shaftless machine equipped with servo technology.

To complement the Sigma, Edale will also demonstrate a 4-colour UV flexo Alpha producing a cosmetic label on self-adhesive PP.

The press will be running in line with a Matho waste management system that chops and compacts the matrix.

Edale will also demonstrate a UV flexo shrink sleeve application developed for high impact container decoration.

ExxonMobil will be showcasing a new transparent film for self-adhesive labelling of squeezable containers.

Label-Lyte 55XLC536 is said to offer excellent gloss.

The new film has a versatile water-based top coating that provides excellent print quality with most UV-printing technologies. An adhesive-receptive coating applied to the reverse side offers anchorage with most adhesive formulations.

Says commercial business mana-ger Mirek Tokaj: "This film is set to change packaging and labelling in the health and beauty care market especially where, until now, polyethylene films have dominated labels."

Initial tests have proved that the new film offers better conform-ability than other OPP films, while maintaining excellent convertibility.

Provisionally called Ilfoseal, a new inkjet labelstock with photographic print quality, which seals itself after printing to become water resistant and scuff proof, will steal the limelight.

The surface of the label can be selectively made high gloss or lower gloss by adjusting the sealer unit.

Incorporated in a fast drying, ink receptive coated layer, are hundreds of thousands of polymer beads. After printing and when activated by heat and pressure in the sealer accessory, they fuse together to form a microscopically thin, yet rugged, film.

This transparent over layer protects the ink printed surface from damage and also gives the label its gloss.

The labelstock and sealer unit is aimed at VIP 2020 installations producing prime quality colour-on-demand labels or secondary labels requiring extra durability and water or chemical resistance.

The material and the sealing unit are shortly to undergo test marketing in the UK and will be available to other countries in early 2004, subject to availability.

New Generation labellers will form the core display on this stand including air-blow, tamp-blow and wipe-on label applicators and sys-tems. All of these are available with stepper motor drives for enhanced label placement accuracy and reliability.

The focus of attention will also be focussed on the zero down time function for increased performance. An interface cable is used to connect two applicators and all functions can be utilised through the menu display set-up.

The first applicator is assigned master and second assigned slave. If the master does not label a product, the slave will automatically apply the missing labels. Electronics can keep track of up to 32 products between applicators.
